CHINA SUPPLIED MODEL LAMPOSTS AND LIGHTS - WARNING!!!

Do not buy lighting sourced from China it may destroy your layout or worse.

Be very careful of buying the model lamposts and lights from China or Hong kong. These items are very dangerous. Having purchased a selection of different types from a ebay shop whose listings are numerous for lights (also sells trees, carsand figures)I was shocked whenI came to use them. They look similar to Viessmann lighting, but thats where the similarity ends. First they are 6 volt bulbs, secondly they fall apart with ease, thirdly the wiring used is non insulated single strand shellac covered wire. This is probably recovered component from scrap electric motors and similar. When you set them on your layout, glues or adhesives melt the shellac - exposing the wire. Also the wire is too thin and gets hot, this also weakens the shellac.

After installing some dozen lights and turning on the power (6 volts) within minutes some went out, some started to melt and in the worse case onecaught fireThese products should be banned from Ebay and I warn anyone selling these or buying these items that you are risking setting your layout on fire. I have reported the product to Ebay and trading standards in my area. These items are dangerous.
