Some tips to avoid being scammed

The eBay buying and selling experience 99% of the time is fantastic, I love being an ebayer, and suggsest everyone gives it a go.

I have been buying and selling on eBay for well over 6 years now

In that time I have managed to avoid most of the scammers out there.

Here are some tips that might help you avoid them as well

Please bear in mind not everyone is a scammer, most people are decent, but sadly as with everything in life, we are always judged by the silly minority

These are "Common Sense" tips, that might help you avoid being ripped off.

CHECK your seller out

A little bit of basic research using freely available information may well avoid a loss to you.

here are some of the warning signs to look for.

Feedback check out their buying and selling patterns for the last 30 days, is the seller suddenly offering a high priced electrical item after suddenly only buying or selling very low priced items for the last 30 days?

Are all the people buying from this seller, newly registered or very low feedback IDs?

If the answer is yes, it could be that the seller has lots of fake accounts which are used to build feedback and lull you into a false sense of security.

Buyer Protection does the listing have it showing at the top?, to qulaify for buyer protection the seller must have at least 50 feedback and has proved to paypal they are who they say they are

Payment methods are they only offering Ppaypal and uncrossed postal orders?, this is a sign that they dont want any traceable payments going through their bank account

Email addresses is there an something in the listing thats says " email@ xxxxx.xxx for more details", if so its because they want you to trade off of ebay with them, which invalidates any protection you might have

Not responsible for postal losses biggest scam of them all, and any seller with that in there listing should be avoided like the plague, what they are actually saying is "pay me, i wont send your goods, and will claim they got lost in the post"

The good news is hat if you paid by paypal, you can make a claim against a seller that tries that one

Impatiance Scammers rely on this, they know you want it now and as cheap as possible.

If its too good to be true, then it probably is.

Simply by bookmarker the seller and item and waiting 7 days before commiting to buy will stop most scammers, as its normally only 2 or 3 days after they start scamming people that bthe negs roll in, be patient if the deal really is that fgood the seller will have more, and so will other sellers.

The latest craze Like PS3's, there is NO legal way for anyone on ebay to get highly desirable items like these when the high streets havent got them, if you cant get it in the high street right, then you cant get it on ebay either.

And if you can, then it has been imported via the back door, and the maker will give you no warranty at all.

Always always check the sellers sales history, if they are selling an item like this, then they will have a good track record of selling similar items going back many months.

Compare sellers if only one seller is selling the item you want a cheap price and no other sellers are selling at the same price be very wary.

If you look at some of the sellers listed to the right of this guide, you will notice they obtained their feedback by buiying and or selling 1p items, this is a danger sign, and if you see a seller with lots of feedback like that avoid them at all costs

Best Classic Stocking Fillers

'Cannot be held responsible for loss/damage' - RUBBISH!

Hi thereHave you noticed in some auctions the Seller will indicate that he/she CANNOT be held responsible for loss or damage in the post......and lots of things go missing!Well, this is nonsense, the SELLER IS responsible until it arrives at the buyers door and a signature is obtained and I'm not the only reviewer to mention it...but it doesn't hurt to hear it again, particularly in connection with the sale of mobile phones and mp3 players. as quite a few of these go missing according to the post office. mostly as a result of BAD packing, putting a piece of brown paper around a box containing a 100 phone is asking for trouble...don't you think?Saying to the BUYER ''How do I know you haven't recieved it - I have proof of postage'' is NOT enough. He/she may be lying to you but it is down to the seller to PROVE it didn't arrive and you can only do this by sending the item ''Special Delivery''(4.50 or 5.70 for phones) That way you get a signature on delivery it is insured to 500 so if you haven't got a signature you can re-imburse the buyer and get ALL your money back from the Post-Office.By the way - ebay/Paypal will ask you for a tracking number if it goes to dispute and if you can't show a tracking number or signature which you only get with 'Special delivery' or'signed for' (if the goods are underunder 32)you can't win.I hope you found this of interest...If you are guilty of sending expensive item by the ''cheapskates'' method, then you won't like what I have written. If on the otherhand you are a buyer...maybe it will make you more wary of who you buy from.

HOW TO CHECK IF FEEDBACK IS REAL OR FAKE

IF YOU WANT TO CHECK IF FEEDBACK OF SOMEONE IS REAL NOT FAKE THEN DO SOME OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS:

1- CHECK IF THE SAME BUYER HAS LEFT LOTS OF SIMILAR FEEDBACK - COULD HAVE A SECOND ACCOUNT AND SET UP FAKE TRANSACTIONS

2- CHECK THE DATE OF FEEDBACK LEFT, IF LOT OF FEEDBACK HAS BEEN LEFT WITHIN 1 MINUTE OF EACH OTHER IT MAY BE FRAUDULENT

3- IF THE BUYER IS VERIFIED WITH PAYPAL HE WILL USUALLY BE SERIOUS

4- IF THE BUYER HAS ASKED FOR A STRANGE REQUEST IN AN EMAIL LIKE TO POST TO A FRIEND IN NIGERIA SAY NO. SAY YOU WILL POST TO A CONFIRMED PAYPAL ADDRESS IN THE UK

IF YOU HEED THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND YOU WILL HAVE A SAFE TRANSACTION AND A HAPPY ONE AT THAT!!!

Donkey, sheep, nativity dressing up/fancy dress oufit

As it's coming up to the Christmas season with nativity plays and all, I have been looking for an appropriate bargain to dress my toddler in for her navitity play. Only there aren't many bargains to be had! It seems most new costumes seen to go for about 12 with quite high postage costs.

I would like to share my newly aquired knowledge and bring to the attention of all those fretting parents, that most listed are ladybird (Woolworths) costumes that can be aquired direct from the shop for 13. They are in Woolworths "The Big Red Book" and can be ordered online, in-store or by phone. If you choose to collect from a store there are no delivery charges. So why pay this much plus inflated postage!
